CARLSBAD, CA – (October 4, 2012) – Original Watermen, a nationally-recognized supplier for watermen, surf and lifeguard apparel and equipment, is sponsoring the Carlsbad High School Surf Team with team jackets for the 2012-2013 season. The 2012-2013 season will mark the third year Original Watermen sponsors the team.
"Original Watermen doesn't sponsor the Carlsbad Surf Team just because they're great surfers – we also believe in their academic futures and the overall morale of the team," said Jeff Jones, Sales Manager at Original Watermen. "We hope to carry on this tradition for many years to come."
"Original Watermen has been absolutely awesome to the Carlsbad Surf Team and the program," said Denny Cooper, Surf Team Assistant Coach. "The kids and our program have benefitted greatly from their donations – it allows us to do other things for the kids with food, awards at the end of the year, and scholarships as well."
The Carlsbad High School Surf Team will be holding tryouts very soon for the 2012-2013 season. Part of Carlsbad High's Athletic Program for over 20 years, the surf team competes in several surf competitions throughout their season. Most recently, the Carlsbad men's shortboard division ranked second in the High School State Surfing Championships team competition. The competition takes place over three days, and hosts 24 high schools from San Diego to Santa Barbara.

Original Watermen takes pride in building strong relationships with prominent local watermen, as well as city and state lifeguards throughout Southern California. Locally, the company works closely with the Encinitas Junior Lifeguards, City of Oceanside, Los Angeles County, San Diego Junior Lifeguard Services, California State Junior Lifeguards Carlsbad, City of Coronado and Camp Pendleton Lifeguards, among others. Nationally, many agencies on the East Coast are also sporting Original Watermen shorts, watermen boardshorts, swimsuits and apparel.
Like so many great things in the ‘80s, Original Watermen started in the back of a VW bus. Surfer and lifeguard, Ken Miller and future wife Jen, began making and selling water trunks. The first customers were Carlsbad, CA locals and eventually the State of California lifeguards signed up for 36 red shorts. Since those early days, Original Watermen has evolved and grown, now outfitting over 1,900 organizations from local and state agency lifeguards and fire fighters to military Special Forces. Original Watermen, as a company, was created with a solitary vision: provide the best quality, fit, and performance in every garment.
